Rotary District 7330
Southwest Pennsylvania, USA
December 17, 2018   #13

As the end of December approaches, I’m looking back on the first half of our Rotary year of Being the Inspiration with gratitude.  As the old song goes, “It was a very good year.”
So many good people across District 7330 are living our motto Service Above Self.  Ways that you are helping to make this world a better place include the following:
  • International Solar Suitcase Project support.  Six suitcases at a cost of $3,000 each have been totally funded. Number 7 is underway.  We received two very generous donations: one from the Cambria County Blind Association that totally funded one suitcase and from the Johnstown Interact Club that funded another. Rotarians in the Washington Club also funded a suitcase.
  • District Foundation Celebration.  Checks totaling $8,100 have been sent to The Rotary Foundation.
  • Interact Christmas cards for veterans.  Interactors from District 7330 surpasses all previous card collections with an incredible total of 9,699 cards!  Sixteen Interact clubs participated with Greensburg Salem at 2,757 cards, Greater Johnstown at 2,232 cards, and rounding out the top three Somerset Area with 1,605 cards.  The enthusiasm of our young people WILL brighten the holidays for some area veterans.
  • Conemaugh Township Wishes of Christmas.  Under the leadership of President Andi Palmer, the Rotary Club of Conemaugh Township has made a number of Christmas wishes come true for people in need. Johnstown pitched in to help with doctor bills for one recipient.
  • Greensburg Groceries.  The Rotary Club of Greensburg added a requirement for attending their Christmas social.  Participants donated bags of groceries that will be distributed to food pantries at local churches.
  • Murrysville/Export Clelian Heights Christmas.  Club members brought some cheer including a visit from Santa to exceptional children. Take a look at the picture below—Santa sure resembles PDG Mark Kessler and that elf with District Mascot Roty’s cousin has to be Pat Shaffer!
  • Uniontown and Johnstown new members.  Both clubs inducted two new members this month.
  • Christmas sweater contests. Westmoreland includes an ugly sweater competition in its Bar Crawl, while Greensburg awarded ribbons for Ugliest, Rash Inducing, Most Flammable, and Most Creative.
  • Celebrations.  So many invitations and so little time to spend with clubs throughout the district as you take time to share the spirit of the season.
  • Transition Committee.  The committee has been hard at work delineating subcommittee charges and moving the merger process forward.  Some of you will be hearing from the committee soon with requests to serve.
District 7330 Rotarians,
Thank you for your enthusiastic support!  My heart is full of gratitude for the opportunity to serve as District Governor and your accomplishments continue to inspire me.
With 2019 fast approaching, we are going to take a little newsletter break and use the time to build the momentum that will carry us to through June 30.
Happy Holidays and thank you my friends for Being the Inspiration!
Cherie
