Thoughts on a Rotary Journey

As I write this, I’m in a hotel lobby in Norfolk, Va where the Zone 33-34 Leadership Summit is being held.
When we become part of Zone 33 on July 1, 2019 our network of Rotarians will grow and new opportunities for service and fellowship will be available.
Today, Zones 33 and 34 are focusing on alleviating hunger and a number of presentations and service projects will center on taking action against hunger.
Earlier in the week, leadership training of present and future leadership took place.
When we arrived, after being delayed by freezing rain and nearly a foot of snow in the mountains, Rotarians were unloading vans filled with toys to support Toys for Tots. There were a number of decorated Christmas trees that will be donated to military families after the conference. The house of friendship had displays of water filters and shelter boxes and other opportunities of interest to Rotarians.
There was a Pirate themed Hospitality suite where we had a chance to relax.
Remember that saying about surrounding yourself with people you wish to be like? Rotary conferences provide an opportunity for that and to be inspired, motivated and educated.
Last week, we joined together to celebrate the Rotary Foundation. The Caribbean themed event warmed a cold evening and encouraged Rotarians to raise more money to do good in the world. I thank all of you who attended, took out an ad, donated an auction item or donated to the Foundation.
Soon, Thanksgiving will be here. I hope each of you takes a moment to appreciate the impact that Rotary has had on your life. I’m especially thankful for the friendships that I have found in Rotary and the good that we have been able to do together.
